A high bounce rate means your landing pages aren't resonating. Here's how to diagnose and fix it.
Bounce rate measures the percentage of visitors who leave your website after viewing only one page. For service business landing pages, a bounce rate above 60% is a warning sign. Above 75%, you have a serious problem that's wasting your ad spend and costing you leads.
The most common cause of high bounce rates is a mismatch between the ad and the landing page. If your ad promises 'Emergency Plumber - 1 Hour Response' but the landing page talks about your full range of plumbing services without mentioning emergency response times, visitors feel misled and leave immediately.
Slow loading speed is the second biggest contributor. If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, many visitors bounce before they even see your content. Compress images, minimise code, and consider upgrading your hosting if speed is consistently an issue.
Poor above-the-fold content accounts for most remaining bounces. If visitors can't immediately see what you do, where you operate, and how to contact you, they'll leave. Your headline, phone number, and CTA should all be visible without scrolling. First impressions happen in under 3 seconds - make them count.
